Deploying Fast and Bandwidth Efficient Protection at Logical Layer for Optical WDM Networks

چکیده
In this proposal, we review the history of message communication and survey the present broadband deployment. We believe networks in 21st centry are optical networks due to fiber’s inherent data carrying capacity. To overcome the mismatching between the electrical processing speed and the optical transmission rate, an all-optical data path needs be maintained. We investigate the design issues of deploying fast and bandwidth efficient protection for logical networks such as wavelength routed networks and optical burst switching networks. For wavelength routed networks, we propose to couple the primary and backup paths tightly at the end nodes and pre-cross-connect the backup segment. For optical burst swtching networks, we utilize the statistical multiplexing performance of the networks and propose a shared path protection scheme. We adopt graph-based technique, integer linear programming, as well as queueing modeling to develop our protection schemes.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

The emergence of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology has significantly increased the transmission capacity of a link in today's optical networks. In WDM networks, the bandwidth request of a traffic stream is usually much lower than the capacity of a wavelength. Traffic grooming can aggregate low-rate connections onto high-capacity optical fibers to make an efficient use of the ban...

In this paper, we introduce the Pre-cross-connected Segment First —PXSFirst protection scheme; a new path-based protection schemes for WDM optical networks. The goal of the PXSFirst scheme is to achieve fast recovery, while maximizing bandwidth sharing to improve bandwidth utilization. Similar to pre-cross-connected trails (PXTs) protection scheme, PXSFirst ensures that all backup paths are pre...
متن کاملMulti-layer traffic grooming in networks with an IP/MPLS layer on top of a meshed optical layer
Traffic grooming in networks employing WDM is gaining attention due to the difference between the bandwidth requirements of the traffic demands coming from the client layer and the capacity of a wavelength in an Optical Transport Network (OTN). In this paper an algorithm for efficient traffic grooming in a multi-layer IP/MPLS-over-meshed OTN scenario is presented. It allows designing the IP/MPL...

We consider an IP-over-WDM network in which network nodes employ optical crossconnects and IP routers. Nodes are connected by fibers to form a mesh topology. Any two IP routers in this network can be connected together by an all-optical wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) channel, called a lightpath, and the collection of lightpaths that are set up form a virtual topology. In this paper, we ...
